Cookie Policy (EU)
This policy describes the cookies riadvice.com sets, what each is for, and how long it lasts. It covers this website only. Services we operate for customers, such as hosted BigBlueButton platforms, the customer portal and the help desk, are separate systems with their own notices. It uses the definitions of our Terms of Use and complements our Privacy Policy.
1. What a cookie is
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep, and which the browser sends back on your next visit. It is how a site remembers something between pages without asking again. This policy also covers similar technologies, such as the browser’s session storage.
2. Cookies we set without asking
Two, both first-party, both strictly necessary in the sense that the site cannot do what you asked without them. Neither identifies you, and neither is shared with anyone. The law allows them without consent, because they are needed to provide the service you request.
- NEXT_LOCALE: the language you chose, so the site opens in it next time. One year.
- riadvice_consent: your answer to the question below, so it is not asked again on every page. Six months.
3. Cookies we set only if you agree
Measurement, and nothing else. If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies that let us count visits, see which pages are read and when some buttons are clicked. Nothing is set before you accept, and declining costs you no functionality at all.
- _ga and _ga_<id>: Google Analytics, to tell one visitor from another. Two years.
Google’s measurement tag is loaded on every page, but Google Consent Mode puts it in a denied state before it runs. In that state it sets no cookie and stores nothing on your device. Google may still receive basic, cookieless signals that a page was viewed, and, as with any request your browser makes, it sees your IP address. If you accept, the tag switches to the granted state. Google processes this data as described in our Privacy Policy, including outside the European Union under the safeguards it describes.
If measurement is switched off for this site, these cookies are never set and the question is never asked.
4. The contact form
The contact form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, which checks that a submission comes from a person rather than a script. While the check runs, Cloudflare receives your IP address and technical information about your browser. Where it is enabled it may set a short-lived cookie on that page to remember that the check has passed. It runs on the contact page only, it sets nothing elsewhere on the site, and it is the reason the form does not ask you to identify traffic lights.
5. Live chat
When somebody on our support team is at the desk, a chat button appears in the corner of the page. It is served by Zammad, our own help desk at support.riadvice.com, which RIADVICE runs. It is not a third-party service. When nobody is available, the button is a WhatsApp link instead, and nothing is loaded from the help desk at all.
The chat is how you reach us, so it loads without asking: it is a telephone line being open, not a measurement tool. It sets no cookie. It keeps one entry in your browser’s session storage, holding the identifier of a conversation in progress so that reloading the page does not lose what you have written, and your browser discards it when you close the tab.
If you start a conversation, what you type reaches our help desk and is kept there as a support ticket, together with the page you wrote from. If you use the WhatsApp link instead, the conversation is held by WhatsApp under its own terms. Please do not send passwords or payment details through either. If you would rather the widget did not load at all, blocking support.riadvice.com in your browser leaves the rest of the site working normally.
6. What this site does not load
Fonts are served from this domain, not from Google Fonts. There is no tag manager, no advertising pixel, no session recording, no heatmap, and no embedded video player loading until you press play. Nothing here profiles you for advertising or follows you to another site.
7. Changing your mind
Use the “Cookie settings” link in the footer, on any page. Withdrawing consent stops measurement from that moment. You can also clear cookies in your browser, which resets everything above, including the language you chose.
8. Your rights
You can ask what personal data we hold, ask for it to be corrected or erased, object to its processing, or ask for a copy. The Privacy Policy sets out how, and the GDPR Compliance Statement describes how we act when we process data for our customers. Nothing on this page changes either of them.
9. Changes to this policy
We update this policy whenever the cookies this site sets change. The date at the end shows the current version. If we add a cookie that needs your consent, we will ask for it again.
