Open Source Integration

Open source you can build a business on, kept current and kept yours

Open source, without the risk

Most organisations already run on open-source software: the video platform, the team chat, the mail server, the framework under their own application. It is free to download and expensive to depend on when nobody owns it. We are the team that owns it for you: we fit it into what you already run, change it where it has to change, and keep it working as the project moves on.

Integrate

Single sign-on with your identity provider, your branding, your storage and your monitoring, and the connections to the rest of your systems. Done so that the next release of the project still installs, rather than a one-off that freezes you on the version we started from.

Talk to the engineers behind Open Source Integration

A first conversation is free. Tell us what you run and what you need, and we will say plainly whether we are the right team.

Fork, when you have to

Sometimes the change you need will not be accepted by the original project, or not in time. Then we fork: a maintained copy, with your changes kept as a small, readable set on top of the original, so every new release can be merged in instead of drifting further away each year.

It is how we work ourselves. We maintain our own forks of BigBlueButton and its playback and messaging components, of the Zulip team chat, of the Postal mail server and of the Fat-Free framework, and patched versions of the video components our mobile client depends on.

Keep it alive

Security fixes applied as soon as they are published, new releases merged and tested, and the fork retired the day the original catches up, so you never maintain more than you need to.

And when a project you depend on is abandoned, we can carry it on. Selenoid, the browser automation server, was archived by its authors; we revived it as WebSummoner and maintain it in the open.

Give back

Fixes that belong in the original project are sent there. It keeps your fork small, and it keeps the software you rely on healthy for everyone, including you.

Our own open source

  • WebSummoner: real browsers in containers for automated testing, the continuation of Selenoid.
  • Placepix: a self-hosted placeholder image server, with smart cropping, filters and device mockups.
  • Sukarix: a PHP framework for high-throughput applications, with queuing built in.

Why RIADVICE for open source

  1. Forks that stay mergeable

Your changes kept as a small set on top of upstream, so every new release can be merged in.

  2. Security first

Fixes applied when they are published, not when the next upgrade happens to come round.

  3. Upstream first

What belongs in the original project is sent there, so your fork stays small.

  4. Yours, under its licence

The code, the history and the build are yours, with the licence respected to the letter.

  5. Maintained in the open

We run our own forks and projects publicly, so you can see how we work before you hire us.

Open source you depend on

Tell us what you run

Tell us the software you rely on and where it hurts: the feature it lacks, the release you are stuck on, the project that stopped moving. We will tell you whether to integrate, fork or wait.
